Abstract
For over 100 years it has been known that, during the synthesis of basic, dark green chromium carboxylates, violet compounds are also formed. The first such species has now been characterized. The complex cation 1 was obtained upon reduction of chromium(VI) oxide with formic acid and isolated as its p‐toluenesulfonate. Complex 1 is the first Cr 2III complex containing one μ‐hydroxo and two μ‐carboxylato ligands. (Formula Presented.) (Figure Presented.)
