Abstract
The article analyzes the «Dostoevsky wisdom myth» in Viacheslav Ivanov’s
book of 1932. This eschatological myth is based on a reconceptualization of motifs of
biblical, evangelical, ancient or literary provenance. The connections between the mythologemes of «the wisdom myth» and «the fundamental myth» of the novel-tragedy
are considered. Special attention is paid to Ivanov’s rendition of the Prometheus and
Oedipus narratives, especially in relation to modernist treatments of «the holy sinner»
and Bakhtin’s idea of «aesthetic redemption». The correlation between «the wisdom
myth» and the semantic plot of grace and goodness in Ivanov’s poetry and his continuous expansion of the cultural and philosophical thesaurus clarifies the reasons for his
constant interest in Dostoevsky’s work.
