Abstract
A comparison of the attitudes of the French Jewish establishment with the views of French Christians on three topics in wartime France: evaluation of Pétain during the first few months of his regime; the foreign Jews living in France; and the selections for deportation in the summer of 1942. Concludes that Jews and Catholics welcomed Pétain as the savior of France; that Jews and Christians felt that the government had a right to place restrictions on foreigners; and that each group, in drawing up lists of deportees, tried to save their own people.
