Abstract
This study examines the implementation of political education approaches in Israeli schools following the October 7th attack and the subsequent war. We define political education as the integration of political literacy, critical thinking development, commitment to democratic values, and promotion of active citizenship. Through qualitative research (36 participants), we investigated how teachers implement political education during a national crisis. The findings led to the development of the"REACT" model, which outlines stages for teaching political education during crisis:managing Reactions and emotions, Enriching political knowledge, Analytical critical thinking, Constructing informed positions, and Transforming into social activism. Thestudy's main innovations lie in systematically mapping various political educationpractices and emphasizing the integration of emotional and cognitive aspects during crisis. The research expands knowledge about practices during collective trauma and offers the model as a new theoretical and practical framework, organized as a practicalimplementation toolkit. The findings and conclusions may contribute to shaping educational policy and developing teacher training programs, with potential relevance for education systems in countries facing similar challenges.
