This study focuses on an early commentary on Sefer Yeṣirah, a singlesurviving manuscript, which was produced in the Middle East in the tenth century and preserved today in fragments scattered among the collections of the Cairo Genizah. This comprehensive commentary was composed in Babylon during the era of the Geonim and subsequently transmitted to and disseminated from Western Europe. Long portions of the text are documented thanks to citations and compilations by Judah ben Barzillai Albargeloni in his extensive commentary on Sefer Yeṣirah. Additionally, numerous paraphrases can be identified in the works of Ḥaside Ashkenaz (the “German Pietists”), particularly those belonging to the Kalonimide dynasty.
