Abstract
Background: This article examines the practice of social rights take-up advocacy as a cornerstone of social work. Aim: To illustrate the great importance of developing the knowledge and practice of take-up advocacy of social rights in the social work profession. Method and discussion: In this article, we review the historical, theoretical, and practical aspects of social rights take-up advocacy. We present innovative developments occurring in Israel, which position the country at the international forefront of this field. These developments integrate the therapeutic dimension with the socio-political aspect of social work. The article describes the key principles and strategies of social rights take-up advocacy and highlights its growing importance in the wake of the events of October 7. Conclusion: This article calls for further development of the field of social rights take-up advocacy at the policy, practice, and research levels, while creating a common language and knowledge community for all those involved.
