Abstract

Examines the role of antisemitism in the ideology and political propaganda of the Movimiento Nacional Socialista (MNS), a fascist political group that operated in Chile in the 1930s. Describes activities in Chile in the 1930s and relates the ideological peculiarities of the unique brand of fascism that characterized the MNS. Antisemitism was used by the Chilean Nazis in a failed attempt to mobilize the Chilean masses through the personification of foreign imperialism in the local Jews. The political failure of the Chilean Nazi Movement, and its delegitimization as a result of the failed attempt to seize power violently (in September 1938), produced a parallel delegitimization of its antisemitic ideas.
