נראה כי השער הכפול בהר הבית תוכנן ועוטר על ידי אמנים וארכיטקטים שעבדו בשירות המלך הורדוס, ואילו עבד אל-מאלכ תיקן ועיטר מחדש את החזית ואת הקמרונות העולים אל רחבת הר הבית, ואולי אף תיקן את עיטורי הכיפות שנשחקו עם הזמן
