המחבר טוען כי רבים ממחקריו של יעקב כץ, גם אלה הנראים מרוחקים מנושא השואה, הונעו על ידי דחף להסביר מדוע דווקא היהודים, ולא עם אחר, היו קורבנותיו של ארוע היסטורי זה.
