נייר עמדה: לחקור חינוך אזרחי דמוקרטי בעיתות מלחמה

This position paper examines the role of research on democratic civic education during periods of war and armed conflict, using the current reality in Israel as a case study. At its core, the paper asks whether democratic ideals can be promoted in suchturbulent times. Through my personal interpretation of testimonies from researchstudents of diverse backgrounds who have attempted to answer this question, I have identified several challenges characterizing educational research in times of conflict.These challenges include practical difficulties in conducting research, shifts inparticipants’ identities and perceptions, and the impact of war on theoreticaldiscourse. Based on these findings, I emphasize the dual role of educational researchas both a reflective and transformative tool—not merely describing and explainingreality but also contributing to educational practices that may help address this reality.
