Abstract

(Figure Presented) A many-state logic machine that acts as a counter is proposed on the basis of charging of a gold-quantum-dot array resistively connected to a gold-coated glass surface. The number of electrons on the dot can be controlled by illuminating a CdS nanoparticle that is covalently coupled to the gold dot (see picture).
