Abstract
Temple's classic lower bound to eigenvalues (1928) has been strengthened by using a set of approximate eigenfunctions, instead of a single approximation, to calculate first and second moments of the system Hamiltonian. The improved accuracy, for both ground and excited states, can be considerable.
