Abstract

A small spherical neutron detector made of NE102A plastic scintillator has been used for measurements of fluxes of 14 MeV neutrons. Its absolute efficiency was measured by two independent experiments and compared to Monte Carlo calculations. Gamma rays of up to about 7 MeV can be rejected by introducing a sufficiently high threshold. This high efficiency fast response detector is most suitable for monitoring 14 MeV neutron sources in activation experiments.
