Abstract

Using a highly efficient and reliable transformation procedure based on (i) combining microprojectile bombardment and Agrobacterium-mediated transformation, and (ii) two selection cycles, transgenic carnations with new traits were produced. Carnations with colour modifications and altered plant morphology and performance were obtained by introducing an fht antisense gene and a rolC gene, respectively. Successful transgenic lines from the two groups are currently under going testing in the greenhouse.
