Abstract

The question of intention as a major component of fulfilling a halakhic commandment is tested in the sugya discussed here with the aid of an imagined scenario, in which a woman who had menstruated but not yet immersed is physically forced to do so. Is she now considered pure for her husband to engage in sex with her? The issue has major gender implications, because it places women's need for intention in fulfilling commandments on a different level than that of men.
