Abstract

Using affine Bruhat-Tits buildings, we associate certain subshifts of finite type to systems arising from the action of a Cartan subgroup of a p-adic semisimple Chevalley group on compact quotient spaces Γ\G. These are used to study the resulting dynamical systems.
