Abstract

Hexamethylene diisocyanate and the sterically hindered trimethyl hexamethylene diisocyanate in the presence of tributyltin oxide catalyst were used to coat paper either in monomeric form or as cyclic isocyanurate trimers. Flame-resistant coatings were obtained on applying the isocyanates together with bromine-containing diols. The coatings were moisture-cured at room temperature. The mechanical properties of the coated paper were studied at room temperature, 90 and 120°. The tensile strength decreased with increasing temperature.
