America and the keyword battle over "antisemitism"

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Ought we to rely any longer on the term “antisemitism,” given its use as a generic callout for virtually any real or perceived affront to either some or many Jews? That is the semantic question that the historian David Engel raised in a discussion that goes well beyond semantics. Engel pointed to basic problems of methodology as well as terminology, arguing how difficult it is to prove the accuracy of conceptual models based on affirmed (but not necessarily confirmed) causal linkages between events.
