N2 - We extract the nucleon-nucleon potential from an improved variational ansatz for the two-nucleon skyrmion in which the presence of each nucleon modifies the hedgehog solution for the other. An integro-differential equation predicts the soliton profile and the potential is obtained upon projection onto physical nucleon states. No medium-range attraction is found.
