Abstract

The distribution of dioxouranium(VI) (uranyl) ions at low concentrations between Dowex-IX8-Cl and solutions of hydrogen chloride in methanol, ethanol and 2-propanol (iso-propanol) was studied under nearly completely anhydrous conditions, and in the presence of 1% by volume of water. The results are consistent with the presence in the external solutions of UO₂Cl⁺, UO₂Cl₂ and ion-paired H⁺UO₂Cl₃^-, and in the resin phase of UO₂Cl₂ (not reacting with R⁺Cl^- or H⁺Cl^-) as the main uranyl species.
