Abstract
The present findings indicate that in the suprachiasmatic nucleus neurons exist whose axons project to the region of the mediobasal hypothalamus which is involved in neuroendocrine regulation. Recent anatomic data obtained by immunofluorescence and autoradiographic techniques demonstrated fibers passing from the suprachiasmatic region to the ventromedial and arcuate nuclei, thus supporting the authors' electrophysiologic observation. In view of the evidence that lesions in the suprachiasmatic nucleus modify endocrine functions dependent on light stimulation, an interesting speculation is that these antidromically activated suprachiasmatic neurons constitute an important relay in the retinohypothalamic pathway.
