Abstract

Sm atoms in SmFe0.67 Ge1.33 are antiferromagnetically ordered with TN = 26°K, and with a Curie constant of 0.0737. Comparison with the Curie constant 0.082 of the free ion Sm3+, indicates that the Fe atoms do not contribute to the magnetic moment of the compound. The isomorphic GdFe(Co)0.4 Si1.6 compounds are paramagnetic above 4.2°K. The Fe and Co atoms are in a high spin state yielding Curie constants of 10.18 and 9.99 for the Fe and Co compounds respectively.
