Abstract

We consider a process in which m simple solute molecules are brought from fixed positions at infinite separation from each other to a close-packed configuration where they are confined to a spherical region of a suitable diameter. The process is carried out at a given temperature and pressure. The free energy, entropy, and the enthalpy changes accompanying this process are computed by using a combination of experimental and theoretical sources; the latter part is based on the scaled particle theory. The results of our computations are, in most cases, consistent with previous conclusions that have been reached by other methods, applied to the same problem.
