Abstract
A non-separable model hamiltonian, which describes the normal vibrations of a pair of coupled oscillators, has been solved by a number of approximation procedures, and approximate solutions compared with the "exact" solutions. The results of a simple perturbation theory calculation are seen to be rather more reliable than those of self-consistent-field model.
