Abstract

We develop a large deviations approximation of the probability that the maximum of a Gaussian process exceeds a threshold. The expansion depends on the local behavior of the correlation function. The derivation is applied to the problem of approximating a p-value in a special case of multi-point allele-sharing linkage analysis with partly informative markers. The case we analyze involves pedigrees of an affected grandparent-grandchild pair and their relevant relatives.
