Abstract

Metallic - oxygen compounds in pseudo ternary systems LaCuMO with M=Sr, Pb have been prepared by high temperature solid state reaction under different conditions. The susceptibility measurements on La1.85Sr0.15CuO4 show the onset of superconductivity at Tc=41K and Hc1 of 450 Oe. at 4.1K. Substitution of Sr by Pb destroys this superconductivity. For the Eu doped sample Tc=17K, while La1.6Y0.25Sr0.15CuO4 does not exhibit superconductivity down to 4.1K. The tetragonal lattice of LaSrCuO shrinks in the a axis and expands in the c axis compared to R2CuO4 R=PrGd. The role of this distortion in the metallic conductivity and superconductivity mechanism is discussed.
