Abstract

The assembly of bipyridinium-CdS nanoparticle architectures on electrode supports was described. Piezoelectric Au/quartz crystals were used as active electrode surfaces for assembling the CdS nanoparticle structures. Tunable and enhanced photocurrents in the different systems was demonstrated. The enhanced photocurrents were attributed to effective charge separation that originated from the trapping of conduction-band electrons by the bipyridinium sites, followed by mediated electron transfer to the electrode support.
