N2 - An alternative technique for trapping, storing, and extracting ion beams of keV energies has been presented. By applying this technique, the metastable state of singly charged helium-hydride molecular ions were directly observed. The results indicate that the rapid radiative vibrational cooling takes place during the trapping.
