Abstract
A protocol is presented for direct polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification of DNA from chicken nucleated red blood cells. Chicken blood in EDTA was found to have a strong inhibitory effect on the PCR. Consequently, PCR using this protocol should be performed only on a narrow range of blood volumes, from 0·125 to 0·25 μl.
