Abstract

A short account of my interaction with Christian K. Jørgensen since 1973 is presented and the list of his books that have an impact on the research of f-elements is given. Following his theories of ligand field and their impact on spectroscopy of (rare-earth) RE elements we show how the intensities of RE spectra in complexes with macrocyclic ligands in glasses can be strongly intensified. The complexes are incorporated in glasses prepared by the sol-gel method.
