Abstract
Neighborhoods have a profound impact on children and families. There has been a developing notion with respect to the crucial role that community characteristics might have on parenting, for example, parents who live in disorganized communities, characterized by high levels of economic disadvantage, segregation, and inequality face a structural disadvantage in parenting. Interactions between residents within a neighborhood serves as a protective factor against child maltreatment. Moreover, community characteristics have central role in children’s safety, for example, having adults to look out for children can help prevent violence.
