Abstract
This article discusses the mental state of "conditional oblique intention". Professor J.C. Smith asserted that in every intention-crime in which oblique intention is sufficient for conviction, conditional oblique intention should also suffice for conviction. This article contends that his view is wrong and that there may be intention-crimes in the context of which oblique intention, but not conditional oblique intention, should suffice for conviction.
