Abstract

We survey various developments in the study of conjugacy classes in finite simple groups and related topics. These include covering numbers and Thompson’s Conjecture, growth, mixing, and recent conjectures of Gowers and Viola on interleaved products and communication complexity. Some open problems and conjectures regarding covering and mixing times are also presented.
