Abstract
The response of the T electrons in a large organic molecule to a scalar field is discussed. The case of coronene (24 π electrons) is treated numerically. The results show an enhancement of the oscillator strength near the upper edge of the single-particle excitation band. The same qualitative behavior is found in inelastic electron scattering experiments on several polycyclic hydrocarbons.
