Abstract

Theory and experiment have demonstrated that shot noise destroys Coulomb blockade of a mesoscopic Josephson junction in high-impedance environment. Coulomb blockade of the Josephson junction is very sensitive also to other types of noise, in particular, to phase noise in the AC input to the Josephson junction. Similar effects exist in blockaded normal junctions too. Altogether it proves that a Coulomb blockaded tunnel junction in high impedance environment can be used as an effective probe of noise and electron counting statistics.
