Abstract

The mechanism of CTP-synthetase from Escherichia coli B was elucidated and appears to be composed of the steps given in the adjacent column. Ammonia can replace glutamine as the amino donor. Evidence is presented that externally added ammonia and the nascent ammonia released from the glutamine reaction occupy the same site.
