Abstract

Albert A. Dahlberg (1908?93) was instrumental in developing the field of dental anthropology through his multidisciplinary research on dental variation and patterns of inheritance of tooth size and morphology. He carried out numerous field studies on the teeth and jaws of living populations, as well as examining fossil dentitions. Dahlberg was one of the founders of the tri-annual International Symposia of Dental Morphology and of the Dental Anthropology Association and its newsletter. Dahlberg received numerous awards and prizes for his contribution to dental anthropology during his lifetime. An inspiring teacher, he deeply influenced many students and colleagues, who established a number of awards for dental students and researchers in his memory.
