Abstract
Unlike the ancient aqueducts of Israel,¹ dams for water were not a topic of a particular comprehensive research. With few exceptions, they were generally studied in the context of the aqueducts with which they were associated, not as a topic per se. The term dam (Hebrew סכך, Aramaic סכךא) is not mentioned in the bible. But there were water pools (נךיכה) formed by barring the runoff of water in small rivulets. Such pools – the Jerusalem Upper Pool and the Siloam pool – are mentioned in the bible.² No wonder that the references and the actual remains are related to Jerusalem – the
