Abstract
We show that a BCS condensed state can occur by coupling pairs of states near the Fermi surface (FS) with pairs of states far removed from it. This "deep pairing" may emanate from a purely repulsive Coulomb interaction. We suggest that this kind of superconductivity may occur when the density of states at the FS is low, yet it increases sharply away from it.
