Abstract
Drawing upon attachment theory, we propose the constructs of secure-home-base and secure-workplace-base as two psychological mechanisms that shape autonomous motivation in the workplace. We suggest that secure-home-base promotes effective stress regulation and supports the development of an integrated goal system, and explain how secure-workplace-base can facilitate autonomous task engagement.
