Abstract
Determination of Mn in synthetic solutions in the concentration range of typical decomposition solutions of Venezuelan laterites showed that a chemical interference from Si and sometimes from Al noted in the air-C2H2 flame are eliminated in the N2O-C2H2 flame. A comparison of the determination of Mn in both the air-C2H2 and N2O-C2H2 flame by standard-curve atomic-absorption spectroscopy resulted in slightly lower values for the air-C2H2 flame, whereas the N2O-C2H2 flame gave values closer to those reported for standard-reference silicates rocks. The reference silicate rocks in the same decomposition solution were also measured by two different colorimetric methods. Finally, Mn was determined in a profile of Venezuelan laterites by atomic absorption in both flames.
