Abstract

· This article explores the dialectic of a friendship that transcended the theological divide between the Christian Eugen Rosenstock and the Jew Franz Rosenzweig. Neither would yield ‘the Truth’ that constitutes their respective covenant of faith. A theological disputatio, conducted in an epistolary exchange during World War One, paradoxically not only deepened their friendship but also inspired them to develop a nuanced conception of dialogue and inter-faith encounter.
