Abstract
Polarized measurements of the reflectance and temperature-modulated reflectance spectra of V2O3 in the range of 0.5-5.8 eV are reported. The experimental results strongly support the level scheme of Goodenough and are in good agreement with the theoretical model of Ashkenazi and Chuchem, provided the energy gaps between valence and conduction electrons are increased uniformly by about 0.8 eV. The over-all width of the 3 dT2g band is found to be ∼2.5 eV and the gap between the 2 p valence level and the Fermi level is about 3.75 eV.
