Abstract

The relation between the energy and the momentum of the excitation is given by the Bogoliubov dispersion relation. Thus, both the momentum and energy of the excited BEC cloud are measured by performing tomographic analysis on time-of-flight (TOF) images of the excited atoms. It is found that the atoms that carry the momentum of the excitation out of the BEC cloud, carry the entire excitation energy.
