Abstract

Resolution III regular fractional factorial designs for 9?14 factors in 16 runs are standard designs for factor screening in industrial experimentation because of their economical run size. Researchers propose alternatives to resolution III regular fractional factorial designs for 9-14 factors in 16 runs. Their main goal is to add some broad perspective to the technical ideas and specific designs that are found. The main goal of screening designs is to identify which factors have major effects on outcomes. The researchers argue that screening with two-level factors is best accomplished by designs that avoid complete aliasing of main effects with two-factor interactions. They present 16-run designs for 9?14 factors derived using the criterion and analyze some of their properties.
