Abstract
The relaxation of the magnetization of Mn12 in a swept field for different sweep rates was studied. Data obtained imply that the dominant term responsible for tunneling is second-order anisotropy which, although prohibited in a perfect crystal, is present and significant in real crystals of Mn12.
