Abstract

Ambiguities due to off-shell extrapolation of the πN T-matrix in the application of the relativistic impulse approximation to low-energy pion-nucleus interactions are demonstrated. The extent to which the "missing" s-wave repulsion for pionic atoms is produced by such application is shown to be strongly model dependent by performing a large scale fit to pionic atom data.
