Abstract

Chlorothiazide injected intravenously inhibits sodium absorption from the small intestine of rats. Chlorothiazide given into the lumen or i.v. inhibits sodium absorption from the cat ileum in vivo, but the drug does not affect glucose absorption from the cat ileum. Diazoxide by itself has no effect on sodium or glucose absorption from the cat ileum; however, this drug antagonises the inhibitory effect of chlorothiazide on sodium absorption from the cat ileum.
