Abstract

A systematic variation in the line-intensity ratios of Gai and Zni-like Pr (Z=59) to Dy (Z=66) ions has been observed in spectra emitted by atoms injected in a low-density high-temperature tokamak plasma. This variation is shown to be correlated with the progressive closing of the autoionizing channels through the excited 3d94s24p4f configuration in the Gai-like ionization state as Z increases.
