Abstract
Treatment of herpes simplex virus-infected cells with ZnSO4 (0.2 mM) inhibited the synthesis of viral DNA. A similar concentration of ZnSO4 had no effect on DNA synthesis in uninfected cells. In vitro analyses revealed a marked depression of the DNA-polymerase activity in nuclei obtained from zinc-treated infected cells.
